Members of the club planting in groups

UDS Sustainable Development Goals Club (UDSSDG) spearheaded a tree planting exercise that brought together other groups like Young African Great Mind, CODSAG and ERAS with support from Ghana Forestry commission who donated all plant species comprising 100 mahogany and 100 Carcia on July 7th 2018

PLANT ONE, SAVE ONE PROJECT as a development intervention by UDSSDG aimed at ensuring sustainable development with clean environment to enhance a positive environmental, economic and social transformation of the university campuses across Ghana to enhancing productivity and stability.
President of the club, Mr. jirjiri Joshua who also serve as founder of AYDA in a statement indicated that "Trees play a key role in our battle against climate change, it helps to regulate the impact of storms and floods, harbor biologically-diverse ecosystems, and provide shelter, jobs and security for forest-dependent populations. Within our campuses and cities, trees purify the air and ground water, regulate temperatures, provide shade, and encourage pride of place. Trees make life possible. Planting a tree is an incredible symbol of hope. It symbolizes a belief in the future of our school communities and our planet”

Members of the club were spotted happily planting along the Spanish lab and in front of lecture hall 1, 2 and 3.  They expressed satisfaction at the success of the planting exercise with many highlighting on some environmental, economic and social impact the tree planting project could have especially in attaining SDG 13, 15, and 4.
One team member witted “Put simply, trees promote life. Not only do trees produce oxygen and sequester carbon dioxide, they also provide homes for animals, recharge groundwater, replace soil nitrates, and prevent erosion and more. The addition of an indigenous tree to any environment will have countless environmental benefits such as shelter provision, temperature regulations, and provision of shade and then purifies the air”
The four-hour planting exercise came to an end with a call on club members to keep rallying behind all club activities. Four new people who expressed sheer desire in joining the club to push the positive agenda of climate change and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) were welcomed and registered
